Purr-fect Chef: Cats Can Cook Demo Impressions

A demo code was provided, many thanks to Supernova Games.

A Casual Mobile Game

Finding the perfect game to fill the gaps in your daily routine can be challenging, as the Play Store is saturated with money-grabbing titles that often include intrusive ads. Turning to indie games is often the best way to avoid this headache and actually have a good time. Purr-fect Chef: Cats Can Cook might be the perfect download for your next subway journey or lunch break. It’s a cozy Overcooked-like game where you control a cat managing restaurants and racing to deliver food to clients on time.

Delivering Food and Making Clients Happy

The concept will be familiar to fans of the genre: prepare dishes, make juices, serve desserts, and get the food to customers before they get mad and leave. The demo features 40 levels set in one restaurant type, with difficulty that increases dynamically. You can upgrade appliances and dishes in your restaurant to make earning 3 stars a little easier—the full game promises even more content, including several new restaurants and customization options.

As you progress, your restaurant’s visuals upgrade on the map (though this is purely cosmetic). The art throughout is quite lovely, and the gameplay is challenging and fun—a perfect fit for a mobile session where you only have a few minutes for a level or two.

Some levels are quite difficult to three-star without boosters. These can be bought with in-game currency, and while this system could potentially lead to microtransactions, the current balance means players don’t need to spend real money to progress—a very positive aspect for a mobile game. So, although the idea is simple, it’s very well-executed.

Final Thoughts

The demo I tested was on Steam, and while I encountered some technical issues like buggy text and scenes, these are likely to be addressed before the full release. As a mobile title, it’s very interesting and stands out for its commitment to player experience over aggressive monetization. In a sea of games with fake ads, Purr-fect Chef: Cats Can Cook is a refreshing and enjoyable game that might prove itself as a very decent release.
