Who loves cleaning? The people who play the game Cleaning Simulator do!! (If only real-life cleaning were this much fun.)
The Backstory of Cleaning Simulator Demo
Cleaning Simulator is a game that’s all about cleaning. At one point, I received an intriguing text from a possible boyfriend. So I’m not sure if there will be an actual backstory for the main character or not. I guess I have to wait for the final game to learn this. It would be ok if there’s no backstory, though, the graphics are so wonderfully detailed that it’s a pleasure to clean these areas!
In the Cleaning Simulator demo, you can play 2 levels, which give you plenty of time to get a good feel for the gameplay. I spent an hour and a half on the first level alone.
The first level is a large, beautiful home, which, unfortunately, is very dirty!! The floors have marks on them, the walls have been scribbled on, and there is trash everywhere!! It’s my job to clean it. The second level in the demo is another house, but a bit smaller and more modern. The gameplay was the same, although I was introduced to the power washer and vacuum cleaner in that level.

The Gameplay of Cleaning Simulator
There is a very short tutorial which explains the mechanics of Cleaning Simulator. I need a lot of handholding when I begin a game, and I guess I should have made better notes of the instructions because I forgot them!! I was a bit confused about what to do, so I joined the game discord group and was helped by the dev and some nice players. Once I figured it out, I had a lot of fun. If you are forgetful like me, though, you may want to note the gameplay instructions because at this point, you can’t revisit them later. Perhaps that will change in the final game.
As a heads up, there is a green dot which points me towards cleaning actions I need to take. There’s also a hint button, which makes a red dot show up, pointing me towards actions I may have missed. I am able to pick up multiple pieces of trash at once, which is convenient. I learned, though, that I have to be very precise in placing this trash into the trash can because it can easily miss and fall to the floor instead.
Speaking of the trash – although the on-screen instructions say to “take the trash out”, I actually had to burn it in the fireplace or the oven!! That was quite a surprise. It is just a game, though. I was not polluting when I did it.
I can also straighten up the area by putting things back where they should be. There are green outlines to show me where the items should be returned to.
I Liked These Game Features
I like the visual reminder of my tasks in Cleaning Simulator and exactly how close I am to completing them. I love it when games provide this for me.

I also appreciated being able to move the trash can from room to room. That was helpful. I like how I can control how high I hold the trash can, trash and bucket. In the 2nd level, the house had a loft, and I was able to toss my empty trash can over the balcony when I was done instead of carrying it down the stairs. I did the same with my full trash bags.
This same mechanic makes carrying a full bucket of water a nice challenge! For example, I have to carry it high enough so it doesn’t hit the stair railings and spill. Little things like that make the game fun.

I like how I have 2 positions to be in – stand and crouch. Some of the tasks had to be done in a crouch position, which livened up the gameplay and made it so it wasn’t monotonous.
The demo has an autosave feature, so I can start and stop playing when I want to. That was much appreciated because I spent over 3 hours playing it. I liked that the items I am picking up are recognizable, everyday items. I saw a sock, a soda can and a crumpled paper bag, to name a few. In the den, the books on the bookshelves had actual titles, which I found a nice attention to detail. Plus, the soundtrack for Cleaning Simulator is peppy and jazzy. It was quite pleasant.

Final Thoughts
It took me a minute to realize that I need to have a small dot right on the dirt to clean it or on the trash item to pick it up. It’s a bit fiddly, but I got the hang of it. Each level has a timer running as I play, so I can try to beat my time in future games. It’s not stressful, though. I can’t see the timer until I go to a different screen. The last items to be found can be really tricky, thank goodness there are hints for me! I appreciate that.
The final game of Cleaning Simulator will have 10 levels and will be released sometime in 2026. The Steam page says there will be houses, apartments and warehouses to clean. Once I mastered the game instructions, I had a lot of fun playing Cleaning Simulator, which was developed by Damaged Games. And I really enjoyed spending time walking around in the beautiful homes. If you like cleaning games, I predict you’ll enjoy it too.
